I remember watching Sesame Street when I was a kid – man, I loved that show! It was the highlight of my day when they would say what letter today’s show was brought to you by. I would seriously run and tell my mom what the letter was, no matter where she was in the house or what she was doing (which was usually cleaning; presumably because I would almost stop talking and leave her alone while I was entranced by muppets).
One of the segments I remember really vividly was the riddle of St. Ives:
As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives.
Every wife had seven sacks,
every sack had seven cats,
every cat had seven kits.
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,
how many were going to St. Ives?
The answer, of course, is in the first line: only one person was going to St. Ives.
And what does this have to do with exercising, you might ask? Almost nothing. 🙂
I was just remembering it and laughing to myself while I put today’s workout together because the workout is a lot like the riddle: there are four different circuits, with four exercises each, and we do four reps of each exercise and repeat the circuit four times. And it all adds up to one sweaty workout!
We’re working on a few of my favorite things (and yes, that’s a little sarcastic, seeing as how these are a few of my most difficult things) – Cardio, Agility, Balance and Core Strength. Each skill has its own circuit, with four exercises to practice it. I find agility and balance to be particularly difficult for me, and that’s exactly why I need to push myself to work on them more. Ignoring your downfalls doesn’t help you improve them, you know?
